Community Theatre enthusiasts from all over the State of Oklahoma, Past Presidents and Board Members, former OCTA members, all those currently interested in Oklahoma Theatre, and Students and Youth of future theatre gather together for an OCTA conference every ‘odd’ numbered year. The location is close to central Oklahoma to make travel easy for everyone statewide.  The day consists of morning workshops, award luncheon, followed by afternoon workshops.  Registration dates are announced in advance, but anyone can attend the day of festivities.  What greater reason to have a Celebration than to bring Oklahoma Theatre people together in Fellowship?  And in addition, what a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the exciting work that Theatre and Volunteers have done throughout the year!  There is so much to brag about!

The Summer Conference will be at the Embassy Suites in OKC.  There will four be workshops along with the Awards Luncheon, but we are really excited about the featured speaker, Dr. Andy Morgan, creator of The Penguin Project®. This production is unique because all of the roles are filled by children with developmental disabilities including Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, visual impairment, hearing impairment, and other neurological disorders. They are joined on stage by their “peer mentors”, a group of children the same age without disabilities, who have volunteered to work with them side-by-side and guide them through 4 months of rehearsals and the final production. By creating unrestricted access to the performing arts, The Penguin Project® demonstrates that the special challenges of a disability need not handicap a child’s ability to participate in life’s experiences.

Below is the list of the workshops to be presented:

The Art of the Actor: Character Development Through Movement by Julie Tattershall

Youth Theatre: Fostering Empathy, Tolerance & Empowerment by Erin Scarberry

Reminiscence Theatre - Developing Theatre From Senior Memories                            Presented by Troupe d'Jour Performing Artists - Stillwater, OK
