All the above winning companies have received special acting recognition at all levels.
International festivals in Monaco, Montreal, Aruba, Ireland, Nova Scotia, and Heidelberg, Germany have extended invitations to represent the United States to theatres from Tulsa (Tulsa Little Theatre/ Theatre Tulsa), Oklahoma City (BLAC, The Mummers, and Carpenter Square Theatre), Shawnee, Watonga, Muskogee, and Lawton.
Oklahoma Governor’s Arts Awards and Recognition
Theatres and individuals involved in community theatre have traditionally taken a leadership role in the arts in Oklahoma. Since the inception of the Governor’s Arts Awards in 1975, the following community theatres have been recognized and honored at the annual ceremonies:
- Center for the Physically Limited (Center Stage Players), Tulsa
- Jewel Box Theater, Oklahoma City
- Lawton Community Theater
- Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City
- Oklahoma Children’s Theater, Oklahoma City
- Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park, Edmond
- Southwest Playhouse and Fine Arts Center, Clinton
- Theatre Tulsa
In addition, individuals involved in community theatre as volunteers, patrons and community leaders, educators, and managers have received a total of twelve (12) of the prestigious Governor’s Arts Awards, and an additional twenty-three (23) have received special recognition awards.
